Micro Indentation Simulation using Abaqus SPH method

Micro-indentation is a widely used technique to evaluate the mechanical response of materials at small scales. In this study, we performed a micro-indentation simulation using Abaqus/Explicit with the Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method.

The SPH approach provides an effective way to model large deformations and material flow without the limitations of mesh distortion. A rigid indenter was pressed into a solid block, and the resulting von Mises stress distribution was captured. The simulation shows how stress propagates beneath the indenter, highlighting regions of high plastic deformation and stress concentration.

This numerical experiment demonstrates how advanced computational techniques like SPH can be applied to study localized deformation in micro-mechanics, enabling better understanding of material strength, hardness, and failure mechanisms.
